Wyoming Hereford Ranch, began in 1883 as an experiment. Hereford cattle were brought over from England, known for their hardiness, they thrived in the Wyoming climate. Hereford cattle changed the face of the beef industry. The ranch was part of the much larger Swan Land and Cattle Co., the experiment starting as 65,000 acres, is now the oldest continuosly operated registered livestock operation in the US. Over the years, several exceptional bulls were bred and introduced on the ranch, including Prince Domino, whose genes continue in virtually all herefords today, the ranch has a rich history. Many of the early buildings and barns are still being used, and are open for inspection. Dr.Hales and his wife Anna Marie, have owned the ranch some 30 years and are the first owners to actually live on the ranch. While the ranch isn’t a tourist or dude facility, the public is welcome. Bring a sack lunch and help yourself to some rich beef history.
