Once a booming coal-mining town, Superior had a population of over 3000 when the original mines closed in the 1960s. Named for the Superior Coal Company, which in turn was named for the high quality of the coal here, Superior was the setting for the 1992 film Leaving Normal. Today, the nearby Jim Bridger Mines and Power Plant are revitalizing the area.
