Burntfork

The arid climate here often makes the land vulnerable to brush fires. Burntfork is named for the creek nearby which is lined with blackened timber. Although there’s no longer a post office here, the site is still important for being the place where General William Ashley first met with trappers, traders, and Indians already in the area in 1825.
