(307) 283-1192

The Vore Buffalo Jump is on U.S. Highway 14, near I-90 between Sundance and Beulah. This unique site is a natural sinkhole approximately 200 feet in diameter and 40 feet deep. The area was used by many Indian tribes for several hundred years to stampede buffalo into the hole. They were then salvaged for food, clothing, and supplies. The bones of thousands of buffalo remain at the site. The site is rich with artifacts in near perfect condition. A nonprofit corporation based in Sundance is beginning a major fund drive to pay for the first stage of an interpretive center site. Organizers promise that it will be a jewel for the region when it’s finished, featuring a world-class museum and visitors center.
