Union Pass
About 8 miles west of Dubois on U.S. Highway 26/287


Westbound Astorians led by Wilson Price Hunt in September, 1811, passed through Dubois region, over Union Pass, and on to the mouth of the Columbia River to explore a line of communication and to locate sites for fur trading posts across the continent for John Jacob Astor. In the party were Mackenzie, Crooks, Miller, McClellan, Reed, 11 hunters, interpreters and guides; 45 Canadian engages, an Indian woman and her 2 children.
